Baccharis halimifolia
(Groudsel-bush) is a handsome, unusual native multi-stemmed deciduous shrub
with soft gray green to rich green leaves. The habit is distinctly oval to
rounded. Makes a good mass or filter plant in difficult soil areas. Common
along the coast of Georgia (quite salt tolerant) where in late summer and fall
the white fruits appear as a froth over the top of the plants. ... Michael A.

Calicarpa americana
[American beautyberry) is a rather coarse, 3-8' high, loose, open shrub that is
found throughout the southeast. . . . The lavender-pink flowers are borne in
axillary cymes on new growth from June into August. The 1/4" diameter, violet
to magenta magenta fruits are produced in profusion. The nodes of the fruit
are literally encircled by the fruit clusters. . . . Makes a good shrub for
naturalizing or massing. ... Michael A. Dirr,
